New Delhi, Sep 18: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government over crime against women in the country. Referring to the recent Rewari gangrape case, Gandhi took to micro-blogging site Twitter and said the nation hangs its head in shame after another daughter of the country is gangraped. He said it is under the leadership of the Modi government that rapists are allowed to walk free and where India’s women are unprotected and are afraid to be in the country. He added saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the incident is unacceptable.

“India hangs its head in shame as another one of its daughters is brutally gang raped”, Gandhi wrote on Twitter. “Prime Minister, your silence is unacceptable. Shame on a government that leaves India’s women unprotected and afraid and allows rapists to walk free”, he added. Reports inform that the residents of the village where the woman was allegedly gangraped, claimed that the spot where the crime took place was infamous for nefarious activities.

A 19-year-old woman, a school topper, hailing from Rewari was abducted from a bus stop in Kanina town in Mahendragarh earlier this month. The incident took place when she was on her way to a coaching class. As per details by the police, the victim was allegedly drugged and gang-raped at a room adjoining a tubewell in an agricultural field. Reports inform that the victim's family has alleged that the police was unable to take prompt action on their complaint and delayed action by citing jurisdictional issues between their units in Rewari and Mahendragarh districts.
