Counting of votes for 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly, including Raghogarh, Ashok Nagar, Chanderi, Mungaoli, Bina and Khurai, has begun.


Bhopal, December 11: The elections results of Madhya Pradesh assembly will be declared today. Polling was held on 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly, including Raghogarh, Ashok Nagar, Chanderi, Mungaoli, Bina and Khurai, on November 28. A neck-and-neck fight is witnessed between the BJP and Congress in Raghogarh, Ashok Nagar, Chanderi, Mungaoli, Bina and Khurai assembly constituencies. In Raghogarh, the Congress fielded its sitting MLA Jaiwardhan Singh against BJP candidate Bhupendra Raghuvanshi. In Ashok Nagar, the BJP replaced its sitting legislator Gopilal Jatav with Ladduram Kori who was challenged by Congress's nominee Jajpal Singh Jajji. The Chanderi assembly seat witnessed a contest between incumbent Congress MLA Gopal Singh Chauhan and BJP's Bhupendra Dwivedi.

In Mungaoli, the Congress gave ticket to Brajendra Singh Yadav instead of its sitting legislator Mahendra Singh Kalukheda. Brajendra Singh Yadav contested against BJP candidate KP Yadav. The Bina seat saw an electoral fight between sitting BJP MLA Mahesh Rai and Congress's Shashi Kumar Kaithuria. In Khurai assembly constituency, BJP's sitting MLA Bhupendra Singh re-contested against Congress's nominee Anmoday Choubey.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, left no stone unturned to retain power for the fourth consecutive term. However, Congress gave a tough challenge for the first time in the last 15 years. In the 230-seat assembly, a party needs to win 116 to form a government. In the 2013 assembly polls, the BJP won 165 seats, the Congress 58, BSP four and Independents won three seats.
