New Delhi, December 16: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal, talking on the Central government's affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Saturday requesting to correct its judgment in the Rafale case, said that the government should have framed its response to the top court correctly in regard to information about the deal details shared with the CAG and the PAC. He said that the government should have said that "while pricing details have been shared with CAG, the matter isn't yet brought to PAC", in order to avoid the confusion. Sibal said that the SC relied upon what the government said and gave an order based on that information. The Congress leader said that the Central government is now "embarrassed" as it mislead the top court and "have embarrassed court as well." Talking to news agency ANI, he claimed that the PAC knowing the Rafale deal details "isn't the only part of judgment that's factually incorrect."
Kapil Sibal further added that, "It's very unfortunate because what's now being stated by the govt is really blaming the court for misinterpreting the points they had placed before the court in a sealed cover(sic)."
The Central government on Saturday filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court "seeking factual corrections" in its verdict. The government has also served a copy of the affidavit to all the petitioners in the Rafale deal case, reported news agency ANI.
The government in the affidavit mentioned that the top court "misinterpreted" the government's earlier affidavit which led to the Supreme Court ruling that the deal's pricing were checked by the CAG and Public Accounts Committee (PAC). But the government informed the court that the deal is yet to be examined by the PAC, said the government.
