New Delhi, May 21: With two days remaining for the most anticipated Lok Sabha Election 2019 results, Reliance Defence chairman Anil Ambani on Tuesday decided to withdraw the Rs 5,000 cr defamation suit against Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, National Herald and several other newspapers. The case was filed in Ahmedabad court by Ambani in the defamation case in the controversial Rafale case.
According to a report by Times Now, the younger brother of Mukesh Ambani had decided to withdraw this particular suit that he had filed against Congress leaders, National Herald, and some of the journalist who had implicated his name in the Rafale deal. Along with this, the announcement comes two days ahead of the D-day which would decide the future course of action in the country for the next five years. The lawyer for the complainant - Anil Ambani - stated, as the news channel quotes, "We have intimated the defendants that we are going to withdraw the suit against them and the formal process to withdraw the suit would be taken up when the court resumes after summer vacation."
Currently, the proceedings in Ahmedabad court are at a halt as summer vacation is on. Soon after the vacation is over, the proceeding would take place. Since the defamation suit was of Rs 5,000 crore, there were several mouthpieces which stated that personal enmity is being exercised with this. Also, speculations were high if this case was an attempt to muzzle any sort of dissent on the controversial Rafale deal - under question. With the reports regarding the financial discrepancies being published in National Herald, political implications were also sighted and flakes were drawn on the above issue. It is to be known that Congress' whole Lok Sabha Elections 2019 campaign was based on the alleged discrepancies on Rafale fighter jets deal with France.
