New Delhi, December 17: Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentarian Anurag Thakur on Monday moved a privilege motion in the Lok Sabha against Congress president Rahul Gandhi over Rafale issue. The action is a reply of BJP after Congress leader Sunil Jakhar did the same against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly giving ‘wrong information’ in the documents to the Supreme Court.

Earlier in the day, the BJP-led Central government requested the Supreme Court to fix a ‘factual error’ in its judgment, in which it gave a clean chit to the government for acquisition-related issues of 36 fighter jets from Dassault Aviation in France. PM Narendra Modi Takes a Dig at Congress, Says 'Rafale Deal Had No Quattrocchi or Michel, That's Why They Are Scared'.

Along with Jakhar, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, too moved a privilege motion against Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Stating the reason for the motion, he said, “I have given a breach of privilege notice against the government and in particular against Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad as it was the Law Ministry that gave the go-ahead for presenting the affidavit before the Supreme Court.”

Adding more, the senior Congress leader opined that this is the first time in independent India that a government provided ‘wrong information’ to the Supreme Court.

The leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha on Saturday Mallikarjun Kharge had summoned the Attorney General and Comptroller and Auditor General for ‘lying’ in the apex court over the PAC report. He also stated that being the chairman of the PAC, he has not seen the report, while AG said that he too had not prepared the report submitted in the Supreme Court. Rafale Politics: BJP to Hold 70 Press Conferences Across Nation to 'Expose Congress Conspiracy' Over Deal After SC Verdict.

Rejecting all the petitions filed in the Supreme Court to investigate the Rafale deal, CJI Ranjan Gogoi on dismissed any corruptions in the Rs 59,000 crore Rafale deal. He said, “There is no evidence of commercial favouritism to any private entity.”
