New Delhi, July 12: On the eve of the Quit India movement's 76th anniversary on August 9, all like-minded opposition parties of India have decided to call a Bharat Bandh against PM Narendra Modi policies, as per a news report in the Economic Times. The original Quit India movement was called by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi during the independence struggle, forcing the Britishers to leave India. Reports suggests that the current opposition parties will adopt the same methodology against PM Modi's "dictatorship" as claimed by his opponents several times before. However, the date for the bandh is yet to be decided. It will be declared once a final meeting of the parties will be held at New Delhi.
The report further mentions that along with Bharat Bandh, the opposition parties have also decided to conduct programmes in major cities and states of India, aimed at reaching out to the people. Besides, during the series of programmes held, the opponents will also explore the electoral alliance for the upcoming 2019 General Elections to be held.
Apart from this, the parties are mulling about highlighting common issues like the union government's failure to address the growing unemployment; farmers' distress; loan waiver; incidents of lynching and other forms of mob violence; the state of the economy; spiralling prices of oil products; and attacks on socially weaker sections during the Bharat Bandh. While some are also keen to include the alleged EVM manipulation in the list.
The prominent leaders who will be the masterminds behind the one-day nationwide bandh are Rahul Gandhi from the Congress president, Veteran Politician Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sitaram Yechury from the CPM, Sharad Yadav from the LJD and others from the political sphere.
