Election Commission of India has declared the final results of Purnia Lok Sabha constituency. Santosh Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) has been named the winner. On March 20, the ECI issued notification for the second phase of the elections. Purnia is among the five seats in Bihar which will be contested in this round of the polls. The last date of filing the nominations was March 26. The Mahagathbandhan has fielded Uday (Pappu) Singh from the Purnia seat on Congress ticket, whereas, the NDA candidates is JD(U's Santosh Kumar Kushwaha.

Purnia, in the 2014 general elections, was won by JD(U) leader Santosh Kumar. He had succeeded in defeating the then incumbent MP Uday Singh of the BJP, at the peak of the Narendra Modi wave.

Results of the Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be declared on May 23. Outcome of the poll battle in Bihar is being keenly observed by pollsters, as the state accounts for 40 seats in the Parliament.
