Punjabi Singer KS Makhan 'Gives Up' Sikhism After Facing Backlash Over His Support to Hindi

Punjabi Singer KS Makhan on Tuesday posted an emotional video on Facebook, saying he has "given up his faith" in Sikhism. KS Makhan made the announcement after facing flak over his support to Hindi as a unifying language.

Amritsar, October 1: Punjabi Singer KS Makhan on Tuesday posted an emotional video on Facebook, saying he has "given up his faith" in Sikhism. KS Makhan made the announcement after facing flak over his support to Hindi as a unifying language. "If I say anything, it is directly connected with my faith. Sikh preachers like Ranveer Sahib and Avtar Singh use objectionable language against me and this hurts," Makhan said in the video message. The Punjabi singer added that if he can't benefit the religion, he had no right to harm its sanctity either. He left Kesh, Kirpan, Kada, Kachha and Kangha at a gurdwara.

Makhan faced backlash after he voiced his support to Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan’s statement that Hindi should be declared as a national language. Both the singers were at the reciving end, with supporters and politicians opposing the move to promote Hindi as a unifying language criticing them.

KS Makhan's Video Message:

Makhan had unsucccefully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from the Anandpur Sahib seat in Punjab. With 69,124 votes, he was at the fourth spot. He had served a jail term for smuggling drug and running a racket in Canada. Interetingly, he played lead role in the movie ‘Jugni Hath Kise Na Auni’ based on drug network and black money.
