Faizabad, March 29: In a boost to the speculations of a "Priyanka Gandhi Vadra vs Narendra Modi" in Varanasi, the youngest Gandhi scion on Friday charged the Prime Minister of neglecting his home constituency. Priyanka's remarks against the PM at the Faizabad rally came a day after she claimed to be "open to contest from anywhere".

Addressing the Congress' rally in Faizabad, Priyanka said Modi has "completely ignored" his own constituency of Varanasi. "He had time to visit the entire world. He toured America, China, Japan and other countries...but did not visit a single home in the villages of Varanasi," she said. Don’t Need BJP’s Certificate of Patriotism, Says Priyanka Gandhi.

"The PM has done nothing to uplift the poor of his own constituency, rest alone the rest of Uttar Pradesh and the nation. This shows the anti-poor mindset of the person running this government," Priyanka added.

A day earlier, on being asked by reporters whether she could replace her mother Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli, Priyanka said she is open to contest from wherever the party decides. "Why not Varanasi," she further quipped.

Scores of Congress workers across Uttar Pradesh have demanded the party high command to field Priyanka from Varanasi, in what could be the grand showdown against PM Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Speculations of Priyanka's candidature from Varanasi were triggered immediately after the 47-year-old was appointed as the party's general secretary incharge of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The region accounts for nearly 41 seats in the Lok Sabha.
