New Delhi, April 27: The Congress' Nyuntam Aay Yojana or NYAY, which is considered to be a populist measure to reach out to voters in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, has reportedly failed to create buzz on the ground. Days after party president Rahul Gandhi sent letters through various media publications detailing the policy, the Congress is now using audio messages recorded by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to takes its poll plank to the electorate.
Audio messages recorded by the youngest Gandhi scion have been sent to over 40 lakh voters in the phase 4 poll-bound regions of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. The recordings are being sent in form of telecommunication calls to the mobile phone users. Congress Divided Over Priyanka Gandhi Not Fighting From Varanasi.
Reports claim that the party decided to reach out to the electorate with Priyanka's audio recordings after gauging that the NYAY scheme, through promising a minimum monthly wage to 20 per cent of the nation's economically weaker households, had failed to penetrate its message even among the voters of Amethi and Raebareli -- the two bastions of the Gandhi family.
The NYAY scheme promises Rs 72,000 a year or Rs 6,000 per month to 20 per cent households. The amount will be credited directly into the bank accounts of a woman in the beneficiary household.
Reports citing party insiders claim the scheme was Priyanka's brainchild, who stressed on publicising that the assistance amount would be credited only in the bank account of a female member of the family. The decision is aimed at empowering women, apart from relieving the households at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.
