Darapuri, along with Congress worker-activist Sadaf Jafar and scores of others, was arrested by the UP Police on December 19 for violating Section 144 of the CrPC and assembling at the Parivartan Chowk to stage a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Before being stopped from meeting Darapuri's family, Priyanka was barred by the UP Police from meeting the kin of Sadaf Jafar in Lucknow. Congress UP unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, who met Sadaf in the Lucknow jail earlier this week, alleged that she had been assaulted by the police. The party, he said, has submitted a request to Governor Anandiben Patel seeking her release at the earliest.
