New Delhi, December 30: Congress' general secretary in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, said on Monday that her party would move to the Allahabad High Court to challenge the UP Police's crackdown on anti-CAA protesters. Priyanka also slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his "badla politics", stating that the Office he holds does not mandate him to extract revenge from people. The protesters, she said, are being denied their fundamental right by being intimidated with "revenge" if they come out to mark their dissent against the citizenship law.

Priyanka, on being asked about the challan issued by the UP Traffic Police to a Congress worker for giving lift to her on two-wheeler, said it was a "non-issue". The real issue, she added, is the cruelty being perpetrated against scores of civilians in Uttar Pradesh who exercised their right to protest against the CAA-NRC project of the Centre.
The senior Congress leader further claimed that the Centre would not succeed in implementing a nationwide NRC. All Congress-ruled states and several governments run by other Opposition parties have already ruled out conducting the contentious exercise. "When people are opposed to it, how would they be able to carry out NRC," she asked.
