Lucknow, December 28: With Congress' general secretary in-charge for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, leveling allegations of Uttar Pradesh Police manhandled her while she was on her way to meet the family of jailed former IPS officer SR Darapuri, Lucknow SSP Kalanidhi Naithini had quashed it. Naithini even claimed that rumours are doing rounds on social media of heckling and strangulating Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are wrong.
Releasing a statement on the above controversy, Kalanidhi Naithini said, as news agency ANI quotes, "Today, morning area incharge, Dr Archana Singh has presented a report to Additional Superintendent where she has mentioned that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's car was not moving in the scheduled route rather a different route." Adding on, the senior IPS officer said, "Singh has also written that whatever rumours are doing rounds on social media of heckling and strangulating Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are wrong." However, Gandhi reiterated again that she was heckled and strangulated by the police officer. He said, "Main Darapuri ji ki family se milne ja rahi thi. Police ne bar bar roka. Jab gadi ko roka aur maine paidal jane ki koshish ki toh mujhe gher ke roka aur mera gale pe haath lagaya, mujhe gira bhi diya ekbar."

Following being allegedly 'heckled and strangulated', and his her convoy 'stopped', the Gandhi scion seated behind a Congress leader and moved towards the residence of Darapuri.Subsequently, Priyanka was seen at the home of Darapuri where she, along with a few Congress leaders, interacted with his family members. It is to be known that along with Darapuri, Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested several others on December 19 for violating Section 144 of the CrPC and assembling at the Parivartan Chowk to stage a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Police, in the meanwhile, had stated that 19 people have been killed in the anti-CAA protests as of yet and 61 poeple were injured in the violent clash. Along with this, police had also arrested 1,100 people and detained 5,500 in connection with vandalising and damaging public property. Also, cases have been booked against 1000 unidentified students of Aligarh Muslim University for violence which broke out during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act on December 15. Sources even reveal that Uttar Pradesh government in mulling a ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) and will soon write a letter to Ministry of Home Affairs in this regard, which is the nodal agency to take decisions.
