Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday will lay the foundation stone of the Centre for Vedic Research in Varanasi at the Banaras Hindu University. It will be a first of its kind institute in India. The Centre for Vedic Research will reportedly help explore lost or rare ancient Indian Vedic texts. The institute will also encourage research in multidisciplinary research.

A report in the Times of India says that course material will also be made available on Vedic scientific knowledge. The center will also collect Vedic manuscripts for publication, said media reports.

The centre plans to conduct academic programmes from certificate courses to diploma courses and even degree programmes. Later, the centre will also offer PhD and research courses on the subject. However, there is no word on whether Distance Learning courses will be offered by the centre. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi for a two-day visit on Monday, offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple late on Monday night. He also met schoolchildren at Narur village, with whom the PM celebrated his 68th birthday.
