Mumbai, May 31: After veteran congressmen and former President of India Pranab Mukherjee accepted the invitation organised for RSS cadre trainers on June 7, the Congress party leaders are now looking forward to what Mukherjee will speak at the event. The Congress party leaders were left shocked and disappointed after news about Mukherjee attending the event started doing rounds, especially since the party has always attacked RSS for spreading the saffron terror in name of Hinduism.
Interestingly, it was Pranab Mukherjee who asked Congress-led UPA government to initiate a probe to find out whether there were any links between terrorists and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). However, now his sudden closeness with the same RSS is raising the eyebrows. Mukherjee's instruction for the probe came in view of some terror incidents such as the bomb blasts in 2006 and 2007 at Malegaon and Mecca Masjid respectively, which were allegedly linked to people associated with the RSS.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Congress spokesperson has reacted over Mukherjee's interest to attend the event. He said, "Somewhat stupidish approach to judging the former president over his acceptance of the invitation. Unless and until you hear what the former president says there(RSS event), you should not judge him," was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Reportedly, it is believed that Mukherjee's acceptance of the invitation despite differences in ideology is due to his good relations with PM Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagat. Also, it is expected that Mukherjee will speak on nationalism while addressing the cadre. Sources said around 800 RSS workers are to attend the event and along with Mukherjee, RSS Chief Bhagwat speak at the event.
