Pranab Mukherjee Has Shown Mirror to RSS by Talking of Plurality, Tolerance and Multiculturalism: Congress

New Delhi, June 7: The Congress on Thursday lauded former President Pranam Mukherjee's address at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) 'Tritiya Varsh Varg' training programme in Nagpur. Randeep Surjewala, Congress spokesperson said that Pranab Mukherjee has shown the mirror to RSS at their headquarters as he talked of plurality, tolerance and multiculturalism.
Surjewala said Dr Mukherjee's visit to the RSS HQ had led to a wide range of discussions and concerns. "Shri Pranab Mukherjee has reminded the RSS of the history of India. He taught the RSS that India's beauty lies in its tolerance for difference in ideas, religions and languages. Is RSS ready to listen? ", he said.

Ahead of the function today, the Congress said images of Pranab Mukherjee at the RSS headquarters had anguished millions of party workers and those who believe in pluralism and diversity of the Indian republic. According to a report by PTI, Congress senior spokesperson Anand Sharma took to Twitter to express his anguish after images of Mukherjee attending a function at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur appeared on television.
Earlier in the day, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel expressed his disapproval at the former president visiting the RSS headquarters. The visit raised many speculations and was opposed both by the party. Some Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh and C K Jaffar Sharief, have written to him. A few leaders of the party, including Sharma, personally visited him in a bid to dissuade him from going to Nagpur.
