The government is likely to defeat the no-trust motion moved by the TDP and backed by a slew of Opposition parties led by the Congress. Earlier, while leading the Opposition charge, Rahul Gandhi lambasted the Modi government on various fronts, including the alleged discrepancies in the Rafale deal, the spree of lynchings, cow vigilantism and the nationwide agrarian distress.

The no-confidence motion is likely to be defeated by the government as the numbers are stacked up against the Opposition. While the BJP alone has 273 MPs, the numbers add up to 314 hy adding the NDA allies.
The effective strength of the House has been reduced to 535. In order to defeat the no-trust vote, the government requires a minimum of 268 votes in its favour.
Although the Opposition is likely to be defeated in the no-trust vote, the Congress said it would succeed in "exposing" the government.
"It is not always necessary to win the no-confidence motion. At times, the aim is to show the government a mirror and bring them close to the ground realty," Congress MP Anand Sharma had said.
