PM Narendra Modi to Address Rally at Ramlila Maidan Amid Anti-CAA Protests, Central Delhi Turns Into a Fortress

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organised this rally to thank the Prime Minister for the decision of regularising unauthorised colonies in the Delhi. The mega-rally comes at the time when the national capital is witnessing violent anti-CAA protests.

New Delhi, December 22: Multi-layered security arrangements are in place ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday. The area around Central Delhi has been virtually turned into a fortress. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organised this rally to thank the Prime Minister for the decision of regularising unauthorised colonies in the Delhi. The mega-rally comes at the time when the national capital is witnessing violent anti-CAA protests. The administration has made elaborate arrangements for security keeping in mind that the recent protests in Delhi over the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Pakistan Terror Groups Can Target PM Narendra Modi at Ramlila Maidan on December 22: Intelligence.

Ahead of the rally, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik held several meetings on Saturday to review the security situation ahead of the rally. Apart from the Delhi Police, additional units of Police force, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and have been deployed to ensure safety at the rally. Moreover, the Special Protection Group (SPG), responsible for the Prime Minister's security, has sanitised the area.

According to reports, a huge crowd is expected to attend the rally. During his address on Sunday, the Prime Minister is expected to speak on the BJP's promise of giving ownership rights to nearly 40 lakh residents of unauthorised colonies in Delhi, which has been fulfilled through a recent decision.

On December 14, the Congress too had organised its 'Bharat Bachao' rally in Ramlila Maidan. It was that time when the Congress had launched an attack on the Centre over the contentious citizenship law. Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former union minister P Chidambaram and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi among others had attended the rally organised by the party to target the Centre.
