New Delhi, July 2: With the Centre-ruling BJP under flak over the assault unleashed by its legislator in Madhya Pradesh against a municipal official, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday broke his silence on the incident. Modi reportedly expressed anger, while underscoring that such behaviour would not be tolerated. 'He's a Novice': Kailash Vijayvargiya Defends MLA-Son

Modi issued the remarks while interacting with party office-bearers in the national capital, where the BJP parliamentary meeting is underway. The Prime Minister was briefed on the case involving Indore MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, who thrashed a municipal corporation officer with cricket bat while opposing a demolition drive.

After hearing them, reports said, Modi ended his silence on the issue and said the party would never approve taking of law and order into one's hand.

"Beta kisi ka bhi ho, manmaani nahi chalegi (Not concerned whose son he is, such arbitrariness would not work)," Modi said in reference to Akash, the son of BJP veteran and party's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Update on Modi's Reaction to Vijayavargiya-Assault Case:

"PM in BJP parliamentary party meeting today said any kind of misbehaviour that brings down party’s name is unacceptable. He said that action should be taken if someone has done something wrong. He also said that it is applicable on everyone," BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

Akash was granted bail by Bhopal's Special Court on Saturday, a day after magisterial court in Indore turned down his plea. The legislator was arrested on Thursday after he assaulted an official of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC).

After coming out of jail, Akash denied having remorse over his actions. The young leader said he took the extreme step to prevent poor people of his constituency from being rendered homeless. "This is just a beginning. We will finish corruption and hooliganism (of civic officials)," he said.
