Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met President Ram Nath Kovind stake claim to form the government at the centre.
New Delhi, May 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met President Ram Nath Kovind stake claim to form the government at the centre. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) delegation handed over to the President a letter stating that Narendra Modi had been elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. The delegation was headed by BJP chief Amit Shah. Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President. Earlier in the day, PM Modi chaired the NDA parliamentary meet which was held at Sansad Bhawan in New Delhi. During his address, he said that India voted for pro-incumbency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He added that his government will not only work for those who had shown trust in the NDA, but also for those whose trust is yet to win by the party. NDA Delegation Handed Over Letter of Support to the President:
Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister of the country for the second consecutive time after his party recorded a thumping victory in the parliamentary polls. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP returned to power with a resounding mandate. The NDA secured 352 seats, out which the saffron party bagged 303 seats. The Congress on the other side failed to left any mark in these elections. The grand old party did not even touch the thee-figure mark. Meanwhile, the 16th Lok Sabha was on Saturday dissolved following the general elections and the new House has been constituted. President Kovind signed the order accepting the advice of the Cabinet which met on Friday and made a recommendation to this effect. He signed the order in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sub-clause (B) of clause (2) of Article 85 of the Constitution, a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said.
