PM Narendra Modi Jammu & Kashmir Visit: Militants Attack Police Post, Flee With Rifles Two Days Ahead of Visit

Srinagar, May 18: Just two days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, a serious breach of security has been reported from the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. As per reports flowing in at the moment, militants have attacked a guard post of a hotel in Srinagar on Thursday and fled away with the rifles and ammunition. The incident has caused quiver in the security agencies and the policeman responsible for manning the guard post have been detained by the police for questioning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, May 19 to inaugurate the 330 MW Kishanganga hydroelectric project. The Prime Minister will also attend a convocation at Sheri Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences.

In a dramatic sequence of events, the two policemen guarding the post reported the police headquarters that a group of militants had stormed into the post and ran away from the post after snatching their rifles. But the police is suspicious of the fact that there was no resistance from the two policemen at the post and hence have taken them in detention for inquiry.

The policemen have been taken into custody and the police are on a lookout for the third cop who was guarding the post at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq made an announcement that they will march under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. A shutdown has also been called by JRL on May 21.
