PM Narendra Modi Given Clean Chit by EC in Two Cases of Alleged Violation of Model Code of Conduct for His Speeches in Varanasi & Nanded

New Delhi, May 3: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday gave clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in two more cases of an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had filed a complaint against the PM over alleged violation of the MCC during an election rally in Varanasi on April 25 and an interview with Aaj Tak News Channel on April 26. According to the Congress memorandum to the EC, the PM made reference to the Pulwama terror attack during a TV interview to the Aaj Tak news channel in Varanasi on April 26.  "In fact his entire 2019 campaign has been built around religious invective and co-opting the achievements of the armed forces," the memorandum said. Amit Shah Gets Clean Chit Over Alleged Violation of Model Code of Conduct During Election Rally in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the poll panel also found nothing wrong in his comments made in Nanded, Maharashtra on April 6, where he reportedly dubbed the Congress as a "sinking Titanic". In his Nanded speech, PM Modi had reportedly said that the Congress today is like the sinking "Titanic ship". Targeting Rahul Gandhi, he had said that the Congress chief had managed to zoom in on a seat using a microscope from which he can take on the BJP. Modi was apparently referring to the Wayanad seat in Kerala from where Gandhi is contesting, besides Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. He had reportedly said that in Wayanad, the country's majority is in minority.

Yesterday, the poll panel, gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 'nuclear button for Diwali' remark at Barmer in Rajasthan on April 21. Earlier, the EC had also given relief to the for his  Wardha and Latur speeches.
