PM Narendra Modi Chairs First Cabinet Meeting, Approves Schemes for Farmers, Shopkeepers, Traders And Students' Welfare; Check List of Decisions Taken

PM Narendra Modi chairs first Cabinet meeting and approved various welfare schemes for farmers like pension under PM-KISAN. Also, schemes for shopkeepers, traders and students' welfare were also approved.

New Delhi, May 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday headed the first Cabinet meeting with the Union Ministers, in which remarkable decisions were taken in the field of education and agriculture. The PM Modi-led cabinet approved the extension of PM-KISAN scheme to all the farmers holding upto 2 (two) hectares of land. With this extension to the previously launched scheme, now 14.5 crore small and marginal farmers (SMF) would be benefitted the scheme.

Chairing the Cabinet meeting in presence of Union ministers, PM Modi approved the payment of Rs 6000/per year to farmers under PM-KISAN. Apart from this, PM also approved Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana in the meeting. Under this scheme, farmers crossing 60 years of age would get a pension of Rs 3,000. Though this is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for SMF, the Central government would contribute an equal amount by the eligible farmer. This whole scheme is going to cost the Union government a Rs 10,774.5 crores for a period of three years. The Union Cabinet also cleared special scheme for Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis. The decisions were taken under the ambience of Animal Husbandry ministry. The Cabinet approved an ambitious scheme with a total outlay of Rs 13,343 crores to fully control these diseases amongst the livestock in the country in the next five years, by subsequently eradicating them.

Not only the farmers, but the traders were also kept in mind while taking decisions in the Cabinet meeting. The Modi government approved universal social security for a new scheme which assures shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons a minimum monthly pension of Rs 3,000/per month after attaining the age of 60 years. Narendra Modi Cabinet 2.0 Meet First Decision: Scholarship Hiked For Boys And Girls Under National Defence Fund

Earlier, PM Modi approved a hike in the scholarship under National Defence Fund in its first meeting for both boys and girls. The scholarship amount for was hiked from Rs 2,250 to Rs 3,000/per month for daughters of police personnel and from Rs 2000 to Rs 2500/per month for sons of bravehearts who laid their lives for the nation in the Naxal attack.

In the meantime, it has been declared that the first Union Budget of NDA government would be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on June 5. Also, the Parliament Session will take place from June 17 to July 26. The Lok Sabha speaker would be chosen on June 19.
