Thiruvananthapuram, December 20: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday wrote a letter to his Karnataka counterpart BS Yediyurappa after journalists and crew from at least three Kerala-based news channels were stopped from reporting in Mangaluru. Vijayan expressed concern over the incident. According to reports, six or seven Journalists were detained today in the morning. The Kerala CM asked Yediyurappa to intervene in the matter, and the journalists should be allowed to discharge their duties without any intimidation. Journalists were reporting in Karnataka’s Mangaluru, where two people died yesterday in police firing amid protests against the new citizenship law, when they were stopped.

Pinarayi Vijayan's Letter:

As per a report published in NDTV, four news channels were reportedly in Mangaluru to interview the relatives of those who were killed during the protest on Thursday. In the video which was surfaced on social medial, a senior police officer was stopping the journalists from interviewing relatives of the people who died in the protest. Journalist belonged to three Kerala-based news channels - News 24, Media One and Asianet. Karnataka: Two Anti-CAA Protesters Killed in Mangaluru in Alleged 'Police Firing', Curfew Imposed, Internet Suspended.

On Thursday, two people were killed during the anti-CAA protest in Manguluru after allegedly sustaining bullet injuries. However, the police reiterated that no firing was carried out from their side, but preliminary reports claim that the deaths were caused due to firearm injuries. Earlier in the day, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and few other Indian National Congress leaders were stopped from flying to Mangaluru.
