Mumbai, October 9: Dipak Pralhad Chavan of NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) has won the Phaltan Assembly constituency in Maharashtra by defeating the (Bharatiya Janata Party ) BJP candidate Agawane Digambar Rohidas.

As per the election commission website, the schedule of polls in Maharashtra points that nomination papers for the candidature were filed till October 4. Following this, the nomination papers were scrutinised on October 5, and the aspiring candidate withdrew candidature till October 7. The polling took place on October 21 and Election Commission announced results on October 24. The Phaltan Assembly seat in Maharashtra went to polls on October 21. The counting of votes for the Phaltan Assembly seat in Maharashtra took place on Thursday, October 24 and the results were announced on the same day itself.

The Phaltan (SC) constituency is located in State of Maharashtra. The seat falls in Satara district zone of the state. In the 2014 assembly elections, the seat was won by Chavan Dipak Pralhad of National Congress Party (NCP). He was declared the winner by a margin of 33,568 votes. The second runner-up was Aagavane Digambar Rohidas of Congress party.

Ahead of the elections, prospects are rife for the BJP-Sena coalition from all constituencies of Maharashtra, as the alliance had recently clean swept the Lok Sabha polls. In 2014, the BJP-Sena combine had succeeded in ending their 15-year hiatus from power in Maharashtra. The alliance trumped the then incumbent ruling regime of Congress-NCP by a significant margin. The BJP and Sena had then contested without a pre-poll pact, and had succeeded to win 123 and 63 seats, respectively.
