Petrol, Diesel Price Hike: NCP Workers in Mumbai Protest With 'Lotus' Against Spiralling Fuel Rates

Mumbai, April 26: The petrol and diesel price keep soaring even on the third consecutive day, therefore, to protest against the hike, the Mumbai Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) party workers staged a unique protest. The NCP party men were seen giving lotus flowers (BJP party symbol) to motorists whoever had come to fill fuel tanks at the petrol pump near Mantralaya on Thursday.
Suraj Chavan, one of the party men of NCP chanting slogans of 'ek hi bhool kamaal ka phool said, "After Narendra Modi came into power the crude oil price declined in the International market, but metro cities like Mumbai still have to pay more. Therefore, by giving lotus flowers we are recalling our slogan to public 'ek hi bhool kamal ka phool (opposition parties famous sarcasm slogan against BJP party symbol which also means electing BJP was a mistake).
According to the Indian Oil Corporation website on Thursday the diesel remains unchanged at Rs 70.20 in Mumbai, while petrol prices continued to remain the highest at Rs 82.48, since September 2013. While the prices of fuel in other major metro cities like in Delhi, diesel prices are at Rs 65.93 per litre, Rs. 68.63 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 69.56 per litre in Chennai. Petrol prices in Delhi are at Rs 74.63 per litre, in Kolkata petrol prices are at Rs 77.32 per litre and Rs 77.43 per litre in Chennai.
To recall, before June 2017, petrol and diesel prices were revised on a fortnight basis. However, now the prices are being revised on a daily basis to be in line with international prices. While there have also been suggestions from the Central Government to state governments to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of the Good and Services Tax (GST).
It's noteworthy that since Modi government came into power nine times the excise duty has been increased While just once in October last year the government cut the tax by Rs 2 per litre.
