Patiala, September 22: The Patiala Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections 2018 Results will be declared on Saturday, September 22. The counting of votes for the Patiala rural body elections is set to begin at 8 am and the final results are expected to be out by this evening. Voting for the Patiala ZP and Panchayat polls took place on Wednesday September 19 and a total voter turnout of 58.98 percent was recorded. While the voting was largely peaceful, there were reports of some stray incidents like allegations of booth capturing and violence in some parts. Following this, repolling was held on booth number 131 of Bakshiwala village in the district.
The Patiala district in Punjab had a total of 8.7 lakh eligible voters in total. Out of the nine zones in Patiala, Rajpura recorded the highest voter turnout of 70.8 percent. Sanaur recorded the lowest turnout with just 51 percent votes. Polling was held on ballot paper across 1,284 polling stations in the district.
Meanwhile, counting is underway for Punjab Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections 2018 across 21 other districts including Amritsar and Ludhiana too. While voting was held on Wednesday, repolling was held at 28 booths across eight districts after stray incidents were reported on September 19.
The polling took place on 354 Zila Parishad seats and 2,900 panchayat seats. A total of 17,268 polling booths were set up, 35 observers appointed and around 50,000 police personnel deployed for the polls in Punjab. There are a total of 1,27,87,395 registered voters in Punjab, comprising 60,99,053 women and 97 third-gender voters.
