New Delhi, June 17: Shortly before the first parliamentary session under the new government commenced, Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a statesman role, appealing the Opposition to actively participate in debates and discussions despite their reduced electoral strength. 18 Bills Listed For Passage Including Triple Talaq.
Modi, while addressing reporters outside the Parliament, said his government would give weightage to every statement which comes from the Opposition camp. "Every word of the Opposition counts for us," he claimed.
"The role of an active Opposition is important. Opposition need not bother about their numbers. I hope they will speak actively and participate in house proceedings," the Prime Minister added.

Modi said the next five years is essential for all lawmakers to strive towards lifting the standard of parliamentary debates. His appeal comes amid criticism from the civil society over unprecedented legislative hours being wasted in sloganeering and ruckus inside the House.

Modi said the goal of the new Parliament should be to remain non-partisan, rather than being trapped in the politics of Centre versus Opposition.
"Today, a new session is starting, there are new hopes and dreams with the beginning of this session. Since independence ,this Lok Sabha elections saw highest number of women voters and women MPs," the PM said.
"After several decades, a govt has won absolute majority for the second term. People have given us the chance to serve the country again. I request all the parties to support the decisions that are in favour of people," he further added.
