New Delhi, June 19: On the third day of Monsoon Session 2019, the Parliament will witness senior BJP leader and lawmaker from Rajasthan's Kota Bundi, Om Birla, taking over as the Speaker of Lok Sabha. Stay tuned here for the live news and updates from Day 3 of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

Birla's election to the post remains unopposed as the Opposition has not fielded a candidate against him. The 57-year-old would be succeeding BJP veteran Sumitra Mahajan. The former Indore MP had not contested the election this year, which is seen in context with BJP's "unwritten writ" to retire politicians aging above 75. PM Narendra Modi Plays Statesman, Says 'Every Word of Opposition Counts'

On first two days of the parliamentary session, all newly elected MPs of the Lok Sabha took oath. Controversy erupted during the swearing-in of first-time MP from Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who invoked the name of her spiritual guru while taking the oath to Office.

On Tuesday, a communal strife was witnessed, with BJP lawmakers vociferously raising slogans of "Jai Shri Ram" and "Vande Mataram" when Muslim MPs took oath.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi struck back at the BJP MPs, by ending his swearing-in oath with chant of "Jai Bhim" and "Takbir Allahu Akbar", followed by "Jai Hind".
