Mumbai, March 24: Shiv Sena candidate Rajendra Dhedya Gavit won the Parlghar Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra. Polling in Palghar Lok Sabha constituency was held on April 29 in the fourth phase of general elections. Rajendra Dhedya Gavit was leading from Palghar since the counting of votes began on Thursday. Advocate Chintaman Navasha Wanga of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Palghar.
As per the seat-sharing agreement between the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena, the Palghar seat will be contested by the latter. However, the Shiv Sena declared Rajendra Dhedya Gavit as its candidate. The grand alliance of opposition parties, led by the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to give the Palghar seat to the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA). In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BVA's Baliram Sukur Jadhav suffered a defeat.
The process of filing nomination for Palghar Lok Sabha election began from April 2. The last day for nominations was April 9. The last date for the withdrawal of the nominations was April 12. Check Full Schedule of Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP-Shiv Sena-Swabhiman Paksha alliance together won 42 of the 48 seats in Maharashtra. Congress could win only two seats and NCP just four. The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections will be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19.
