'Padmaavat' violence: Karni Sena Gurgaon Chief Thakur Kushalpal & 38 Others Arrested

Karni Sena chief Thakur Kushalpal was on Saturday detained by the Haryana police in connection with the incidents of violence during the release of movie 'Padmaavat'.

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], January 27: Karni Sena chief Thakur Kushalpal was on Saturday detained by the Haryana police in connection with the incidents of violence during the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie 'Padmaavat'.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the matter, read an official statement.

So far, 38 hooligans have been arrested and sent to the judicial custody in connection with the matter.

"24 miscreants were arrested in eight criminal cases and 14 miscreants were detained under section 107/151 CrPC as a preventive measure", the statement added.

The Karni Sena which has alleged that history had been distorted period drama and have been protesting against its release. As the release date of the film came closer, the protests also intensified. On January 24, a school bus was attacked by a group of men who were protesting against the release of the film in Haryana's Gurugram. The protesters threw stones at the bus, which was carrying students, teachers and other staff members of Gurugram's GD Goenka World School. The protesters also torched a state bus in Gurugram. There has been tension in the area since the incident.

The national secretary of the Karni Sena, Suraj Pal Amu was also arrested on Friday. He too was placed under arrest for causing distress and breach to peace within the city. He has been sent to a four-day judicial custody. The Karni Sena have been protesting and causing trouble in the release of the film. The film, however, has released on 25th of January except in the states of Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
