New Delhi, August 21: Hours after Supreme Court agreed to hear bail plea of P Chidambaram on August 23, the former Union Minister addressed media at Congress headquarters in New Delhi. During his media interaction, Chidambaram denied all the allegations levelled against him and his family members in the INX media case. The senior Congress leader said, “In INX Media case, I've not been accused of any offence nor any one else including any member of my family. There is no charge sheet filed by either ED or CBI before a competent court.” The former finance minister stated that he will follow the law with head held high. He further added, "I bow down to the orders of the Supreme Court and between now and Friday, I shall respect the law even if its applied unequally by investigating agencies." Senior Congress leaders and Chidambaram's lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi were also present at the press briefing. Earlier in the day, the top court said that it would hear the finance minister’s anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media case on Friday. However, Chidambaram’s lawyers had to get the listing of the matter today itself. The apex court on Thursday will decide on the bench of judges who will hear Chidambaram's plea.
What is INX Media Case:
On Tuesday evening, a CBI and ED team had visited Chidambaram's residence. CBI also issued a notice at Chidambaram's Jor Bagh residence late Tuesday evening asking him to appear before the investigating agency "within two hours.". The Delhi High Court had on July 25, 2018, granted interim protection from arrest to Chidambaram. The bail was extended from time to time for more than a year in the case.
