Mumbai, August 21: Trouble seems to be mounting for former Union finance minister P Chidambaram as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has put up a notice outside the residence of senior Congress leader to appear before the investigating agency in the next two hours. A team of CBI officers reached at Chidambaram's posh Jor Bagh residence at 6.30 PM on Tuesday. The CBI's notice comes after the investigating agency reached Chidambaram's residence following the Delhi High Court's rejection of Chidambaram's plea for anticipatory bail on Tuesday. While the Congress on Tuesday questioned the actions of probe agencies against former Finance Minister P Chidambaram soon after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court, and said "what was the hurry" when the Supreme Court was slated to hear Chidambaram's appeal on Wednesday morning. The Congress termed the agencies action against Chidambaram as "political vendetta".
The Delhi High Court Tuesday said the INX media case involving former Union minister P Chidambaram is a “classic case of money laundering” and that his custody was essential for the CBI to take the case against him to a conclusion. Justice Sunil Gaur dismissed Chidambaram’s anticipatory bail plea in the corruption and money laundering cases in the INX Media scam case. The Delhi High Court had on July 25, 2018 granted interim protection from arrest to Chidambaram. The bail was extended from time to time for more than a year in the case. The judge also read CBI's comment that Chidambaram was being evasive in his replies to the agencies.
