New Delhi, February 28: Opposition on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers as part of the Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot programme through video conference. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Mayawati joined the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in slamming the Prime Minister for holding a mega event at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a peak.

In a tweet, Mayawati wrote, “At a time when India is facing the hostility of war and country needs firm leadership, PM Narendra Modi instead of concentrating on the matters of national security trying to serve political interest by addressing his BJP workers is ridiculous besides betrayal of national sentiments.”

Meanwhile, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah also took a dig at PM over his mega event. He tweeted, “PM Modi continuing with his #Elections2019 campaign is the surest sign #WingCommanderAbhinandan will be back in the next 24-48 hours. Either that or he really just couldn’t care less.”

Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal also took a swipe at the PM. He tweeted that at a time when the entire country is working making the nation strong, PM Modi is just focusing on making his election booth strong. Indian Army, Air Force, Navy to Address Joint Press Meet at 5 PM Today Amid India-Pakistan Tensions.

Similarly, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala also slammed the Prime Minister. He tweeted, “Glaring case of misplaced priorities! 132 Cr Indians pray for safe & immediate return of India’s brave-heart Wing Comm, Abhinandan but Modiji desperate only for re-election. Congress cancelled its imp CWC & Rally today. Pradhan Sevak hell-bent on creating a Video Conf. record!”

Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed the BJP workers as part of the Mera Booth Sabse Booth programme, ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Addressing what BJP called "world's largest" video conference, Modi called for a "united India", saying that Indians must stand like a mountain and show the enemy that they cannot be broken. "India will live as one, India will work as one, India will grow as one, India will fight as one, India will win as one," PM Modi said during his interaction with party workers.
