Omar Abdullah Asks For Early Elections After BJP Splits Alliance With PDP in J&K
On Tuesday, in a major political drama that unfolded in Jammu & Kashmir, after BJP's exit, CM Mehbooba Mufti, along with other PDP ministers gave their resignation to governor of the state.
Srinagar, June 20: Commenting on the recent political scenario in Jammu & Kashmir, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said, "The J&K state assembly should be dissolved immediately and fresh elections should take place as soon as appropriate. The former DCM has admitted that BJP can’t be trusted not to horse trade for Government formation. He had earlier said that he would not stake claim to form government after the Mehbooba Mufti led PDP and BJP broke their alliance.
According to an NDTV report, Abdullah has been quoted as saying, "I have met the Governor just now. I told him that the NC did not get the mandate in 2014 so even in 2018 we don't have the mandate. We are not in talks with anyone to form the government. Nobody has approached us. We are also not going to approach anyone."
Omar said when no party has mandate to form the government, there is no option before the Governor other than to impose Governor’s rule. According to reports, Omar met Vohra and he said, "I have extended my party’s support but told him that it should not be for long duration.We will want Governor and his colleagues to make efforts for restoration of conducive atmosphere for holding early Assembly elections."
