Odisha Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Phase 2 Voting Ends For Bargarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Aska And Other Parliamentary Seats, 57.81% Voter Turnout Recorded
Five parliamentary constituencies will vote in the second phase on Thursday.
Bhubaneswar, April 11: Voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 and Assembly seats ended in Odisha. Five parliamentary constituencies went for polls in the second phase on Thursday. A total of 57.81 percent voter turnout was recorded in the state. Around 76.93 lakh voters were eligible to cast their franchise is Odisha's Bargarh, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Aska Lok Sabha seats and 35 Assembly seats spread across western and southern Odisha. Meanwhile, the voting procedure was halted at booths 261 and 263 in Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency for some time due to EVM malfunction. A 95-year-old man collapsed and later died while waiting for his turn to vote, at a polling booth in Ganjam. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Ahead of the second phase polling, campaigning which saw the presence of bigwig political leaders, ended at 5 pm on Tuesday. The first phase polling which was held on April 11 witnessed 66% polling. Meanwhile, zero polling was reported in 15 booths in Chitrakonda block due to fear of the Naxals. Following which, security has been strengthened in places like Kandhamal, Bargarh and Bolangir Lok Sabha constituencies for today's voting. Voting for a total of 95 parliamentary constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories was held on Thursday. These include 38 constituencies of Tamil Nadu, 14 in Karnataka; 10 in Maharashtra; eight in Uttar Pradesh; five each in Assam, Bihar and Odisha; three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal; two in Jammu and Kashmir and one each in Manipur and Puducherry. The Election Commission announced that the voting for General Elections 2019 will take place in seven phases. The last date for filing of nominations was March 25. The scrutiny of nominations took place on March 26 and the last date for withdrawal of candidates was March 28.
