The Biju Janata Dal has won both the assembly elections in Odisha and the majority of Lok sabha seats in the state. While the Naveen Patnaik-led party bagged 113 of the 148 legislative seats, it retained 13 out of the 21 parliamentary seats in the state. The remainder were bagged by the BJP.

The BJD is set to repeat its mandate of 2014, leading on 114 out of the 147 assembly seats in the state. The BJP is emerging as the largest Opposition with leads in 21 seats.

The Biju Janata Dal has crossed the majority-mark in Odisha assembly elections 2019. The party is ahead on 74 seats, as compared to 22 on which the BJP is leading.Â
In the Lok Sabha polls, the Naveen Patnaik-led party is ahead in 14 of the 21 constituencies, whereas, the BJP is leading in remaining 7.

Bhubaneswar, May 23: Results of the Lok Sabha and assembly elections held in Odisha is expected to be declared by today midnight. The counting of votes begun at 8:00 am and is currently underway. The contest here, as predicted in the exit polls, is primarily centred between the state-ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Centre-ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A total of 21 parliamentary seats and 147 assembly constituencies were contested simultaneously in the state last month. Voting was held in the first four phases between April 11-29. A cumulative turnout of 65.6 per cent was recorded, out of the state's 3.18 crore registered voters.

High-stake electioneering was witnessed in Odisha, with Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi addressing several public meetings to reach out to the electorate.
On April 11, the parliamentary constituencies of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Koraput were contested. The corresponding assembly segments also voted on the same day.
In round two, on April 18, the Lok Sabha seats of Bargarh, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal and Aska voted. The corresponding legislative segments were also contested simultaneously.
On April 23, voting was held in Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri and Bhubaneswar parliamentary segments, along with their corresponding assembly seats.
The last round of polls was held in Odisha on April 29, when the Lok Sabha constituencies of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur, along with their corresponding assembly seats were contested.
An aggregate of seven major exit polls have predicted the BJP to trump BJD in Lok Sabha polls, winning 12-13 constituencies in the state, whereas, the Patnaik-led party is expected to be scaled down to 7-8 seats -- down from 19 of the 21 parliamentary segments it had won last time. Congress is likely to draw a blank, claim several poll pundits.
Meanwhile, the surveys undertaken by local media outlets -Â Kanak News and News18 Odio - Naveen Patnaik is set to re-form his government in the state, but with a reduced majority. Out of the 147 assembly seats, the BJD is predicted to win 85 constituencies -- down from 118 it had won in 2014. The BJP's tally is predicted to go upto 25 seats.
