With BJP taking the crucial leads in the last leg of counting of votes in Tripura and Nagaland the party is set to place its favorite candidates to become the Chief Minister. India will see a first BJP CM in Tripura, and their state President Biplab Kumar Deb is the frontrunner for this post. While in Nagaland Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) chief and three-time chief minister Neiphiu Rio who was declared elected from the Northern Angami II constituency as his opponent Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate withdrew his nomination is likely to re-rule the state.

There is no clear majority in any of the three states. Left and BJP are neck-to-neck in Tripura. BJP is leading in 31 constituencies, LEFT is leading in 26 seats, Congress is leading in Meghalaya on 20 seats out of 59, NPF is slightly ahead of BJP in Nagaland. NPF is leading in 29 constituencies, while the BJP and its alliances are ahead in 24 seats giving a tough fight, but little less than the majority mark. Counting of votes are underway for Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland Elections 2018 amid high security. The first trends for all the constituencies will be coming soon. We will bring the live constituency wise results here.
Agartala/Shillong/Kohima, March 3: The results of Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland - the three Northeastern states where assembly elections were held last month - will be declared today. The counting of votes was scheduled to begin at 8 am. The campaign trail witnessed a high-voltage electoral battle between the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Left Front and a slew of regional political outfits.
Tripura, which first went into polls on February 18, witnessed a voter turnout of over 89 per cent. The state remains under the lens of pollsters as the BJP has appeared closer than any other party in the past 25 years to dethrone the incumbent CPI(M).
Meghalaya and Nagaland witnessed a voter turnout around 75 per cent. The two states have also indicated signs of ending the status quo, as the post-poll surveys have predicted massive inroads for the BJP. While there are 59 constituencies each in Meghalaya and Tripura, Nagaland has 60 seats. But all three states will wait for the results of 59 constituencies as, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) chief and three-time chief minister Neiphiu Rio was declared elected from the Northern Angami II constituency as his opponent Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate withdrew his nomination.
The exit polls, released on February 27, predicted a saffron swipe not only in the red bastion of Tripura, but also Nagaland, where the TR Zeliang-led Naga People's Front (NPF) has been ruling since 2003.
In Meghalaya, the 10-year Congress rule could also be drawing towards its end as the exit polls predicted a hung assembly, giving edge to the National People's Party (NPP), led by late Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma's son Conrad Sangma.

In Tripura, two major post-poll surveys predicted a victory for the BJP, whereas, one predicts a battle neck-to-neck, giving a narrow edge to the CPM.
