Mumbai, March 27: North Goa is the parliamentary constituency in Goa which went to polls in the Third Phase of general elections on April 23. The counting of votes for North Goa Lok Sabha election result took place on May 23. Shripad Yesso Naik of BJP defeated Congress's Girish Raya Chodnakar by a margin of 80,247 votes.
The primary electoral contest for the seat is between the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. Though several other regional parties would also contest for the seat.
The incumbent parliamentarian, representing the constituency is from BJP – Sreepad Yesso Naik. The MP emerged victorious in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections by defeating the Congress candidate – Ravi Naik. This time too, BJP has fielded Sreepad Yesso Naik from the constituency. In the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Congress has announced Girish Chodankar as their candidate for the polls. In the meantime, AAP has announced that Pradeep Padgaonkar will contest on their ticket. As per the ECI website – updated on March 13, 2019 – there are 4,86,983 voters in the parliamentary constituency, among them 2,42,694 are females while 2,44,289 are males. The average literacy rate of the constituency is 89.57 per cent. This constituency is known as ‘land of golden beaches’ as it is located facing the Arabian Sea. Among the most prominent beaches include – Baga, Colva, Calangute and Arjuna. The female to male ratio is 959.

According to the Election Commission’s briefings, the process of filing nomination for North Goa Lok Sabha elections will begin on March 28, which would continue till April 4. Scrutiny will be done on April 5, and the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations will be April 8. The polling will take place on April 23.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BJP bagged all the two Lok Sabha seats – North Goa and South Goa. Lok Sabha elections will take place in a single phase across the state – on April 23. The results would be declared on May 23.
