New Delhi, July 18: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) along with support from the Congress-led Opposition on Wednesday moved a no-confidence motion against the NDA government in Parliament on Day 1 of Monsoon Session 2018. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has accepted the Opposition's no-confidence motion and the Narendra Modi government has said that they were ready to face the trust motion. The debate on the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha is set to take place soon during the Monsoon Session.
As the Opposition moved the motion in Lok Sabha today, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia said, "The government which led farmers to commit suicide, under whose regime women are being raped every day, we move a no-confidence motion against you."
Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge had on Tuesday said that all opposition parties have come to a consensus to move the Vote of No-Confidence Motion in the monsoon session. "Articles and editorials written state that opposition doesn't allow to run Parliament. PM too reiterates the same. But the truth is, whenever we bring up important issues, govt tries to avoid it by disrupting the session," Kharge said.
The Telugu Desam Party had also proposed the no-confidence motion against the Modi government. "The Modi government had promised special status and packages for Andhra Pradesh, but it has not fulfilled these promises till date," TDP MP Mohan Rao had said.
The monsoon session of Parliament began on Wednesday, July 18, amid protests by Opposition parties against several issues including mob lynching cases and special status for Andhra Pradesh.
Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday sought the cooperation of all political parties for the smooth functioning of both Houses. Modi appealed to all the political parties to utilise Parliament time effectively and ensure that it turns out to be a productive one.
