Patna, December 25: Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal-United Chief Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced that his government would install a statue of the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the state capital. Even his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath promised the same for Lucknow. The announcement was made on the Bharat Ratna awardee’s 94th birth anniversary.
Kumar said that the decision on the location would shortly be taken in the state cabinet. However, he did not reveal the height and cost of the statue of Vajpayee, unlike Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a 21-metre tall statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be installed inside Lok Bhawan in Lucknow. Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dedicated a memorial of AB Vajpayee – Sadaiv Atal – on the banks of Yamuna river in New Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and other ministers were too present on occasion, who paid floral tributes to the former statesman at the memorial built near the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal. Vajpayee’s mortal remains were consigned to flames on August 17, who passed away on August 16 after a prolonged illness.

Among the other dignitaries who paid floral tributes include – former pm Dr Mammohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and others. The memorial would be managed by a trust headed by Lok Sabha Speaker Mahajan.
