New Delhi, May 30: Narendra Modi on Thursday took oath as the Prime minister of India for the second consecutive time. Nirmala Sitharaman was among the prominent names who took oath as senior minister. She served as Defence Minister from years from 2017-2019. Sitharaman was the first woman full-time defence minister. Prior to serving as the defence minister, she was also Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs under the Ministry of Finance. Sitharaman was a national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sitharaman joined the BJP in 2008 and has served as a spokesperson for the party. In 2014, she was inducted into Narendra Modi's cabinet as a junior minister and in June 2014, she was elected as a Rajya Sabha Member from Andhra Pradesh.
Swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi took place at 7 pm in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prominent names who took the oath during today’s swearing-in ceremony include Amit Shah, Smriti Irani, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Rajnath Singh and V K Singh.
