Mumbai, January 7: Moments after Deepika Padukone visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Tuesday to show solidarity with the students who were beaten up by masked goons on JNU campus, Congress leader Milind Deora came in support of the Bollywood actor. Deora said that neither Padukone owed any explanation for visiting the JNU nor did Akshay Kumar when he raised Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP’s) flag in 2018.

Citing examples of both the Bollywood actors, the former Congress MP said that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but also took a dig at people who prefer to stay mum on important issues. Deora tweeted, “@deepikapadukone doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for her decision to visit #JNU. Neither does @akshaykumar for waving an ABVP flag. Entertainers, like the rest of us, are entitled to their opinions & are free to choose sides. Better than being a fence sitter any day!” Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor And Others at Karan Johar’s House Party Took Drugs? Milind Deora Clears the Air.

Milind Deora's Tweet:

Earlier in the day, Padukone visited the JNU. She also shared the stage with JNU student union president Aishe Ghosh and former student leader Kanhaiya Kumar. She visited the university two days after a mob of around 50 masked men attacked the students on the campus. In the attack, Ghosh was also severely injured. Over 40 people, including students and professors, were injured in the attack.
