Mumbai, December 30: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday stated that people wearing ‘saffron clothes’ are held in high esteem in the country, while Science has been ignored. He opined that children of farmers committed suicide should be encouraged to study and make their lives better.
The NCP chief was sharing his opinion while addressing a gathering at a science exhibition at the Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, run by the Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, at Vashi in Navi Mumbai on Saturday. Stressing the need to inculcate the knowledge of science in young minds, Pawar said, as PTI reported, “Those wearing saffron clothes are held in high esteem in this country while science is being ignored.” Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Sharad Pawar Confirms NCP-Congress-PWP Coalition in Maharashtra.
Pawar stated that leaders like former premier Indira Gandhi, T Subramaniam and Jagjivan Ram laid the foundation of a green revolution in the nation by taking the support of science. Adding more, the NCP chief named social activist Jyotiba Phule for her efforts to promote increased agricultural and milk production.
The former Union agriculture minister opined that he faced a lot of criticism for promoting the genetically-modified (GM) food technology, but it helped in higher crop production with less use of water. He said, “Due to this technology, sugarcane can be produced with less use of water.”
Ending his speech, Pawar promised that Rayat Shikshan Sanstha would adopt around 60 children of farmers – committed suicides in Marathwada region – and take the responsibility of the boarding, lodging and education. He opined that such children needed to be brought to the mainstream of education and encouraged to innovate and experiment to prove their worth.
