Navjot Singh Sidhu Road Rage Case, Big Setback for Punjab Minister
In a big setback to Congress leader and Punjab Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab government has sought his conviction in 1988 road rage case. As per ANI report, Lawyer appearing for the Punjab government told Supreme Court that the statement given by Sidhu denying his involvement in the case was false.
Chandigarh, April 12: In a big setback to Congress leader and Punjab Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab government has sought his conviction in 1988 road rage case. As per ANI report, Lawyer appearing for the Punjab government told Supreme Court that the statement given by Sidhu denying his involvement in the case was false.
Cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is involved in Thirty years old case of road rage in which an elderly man Gurnam Singh died. Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Singh Sandhu were tried for murder but both were acquitted in 1999. later the High reversed the decision and held both of them guilty.
Sidhu and his Friend were held guilty of culpable homicide. The Punjab and Haryana High sentenced Navjot Singh Sidhu and Rupinder Singh to three years of jail and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each. The Punjab Minister was given bail by the apex court which enabled him to Lok Sabha bypoll of Amritsar.
As per FIR registered in the case, Navjot Singh Sidhu and his friend had beaten Gurnamn Singh on December 27, 1988. Gurnamn was taken to hospital where he died.
