Bhubaneswar, December 18: Amid the reports of Chief Minister of various states standing against the recently amended Citizenship Amendment Act, Biju Janata Dal chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has supported the Centre's move. He had said that CAA has nothing to do with Indian citizens, but would not support the National Register of Citizens.
Expressing his opinion on the anti-CAA protests -- speaking like wildfire in the entire country -- Patnaik said, as quioted by News 18, "BJD doesn't support NRC; CAA has nothing to do with Indian citizens, it only deals with foreigners." It is to be known that BJP had voted in support of the CAA in Rajya Rabha on December 13, which led to the passing of the act in parliament. Earlier, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy made it clear that would too not open the doors for CAA in southern-most Union territory. He had said, "We had already said that this will be difficult to implement, so, Puducherry will also toe the line of Punjab and Madhya Pradesh."
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately repeal the CAA 2019 and made it clear that his government would not allow CAA to be implemented in Punjab, as it was an attack on the country's secular character.
Not only Singh, Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had also stated that they would not allow the controversial CAA in their respective states. Banerjee had even claimed that if the Central government want to implement the CAA in West Bengal, they would have to do this over her dead body.
