New Delhi, December 24: A fresh survey predicts a rout for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. According to the 'National Approval Ratings' - released by news channel Republic World in coordination with research agency C-Voter - the SP-BSP-RLD combine, touted as the mahagathbandhan, will wrest most of the parliamentary constituencies from the BJP.
As per the pre-election survey, the mahagathbandhan would win 50 out of the 80 seats in the state, whereas, the BJP would be reduced to 28 constituencies. In terms of vote share, the BJP is expected to secure 42.8 per cent of the electoral share. The mahagathbandhan, however, is likely to secure 44.3 per cent of the votes -- 20.21 per cent for the BSP and 24.2 per cent for the Samajwadi Party.

Case 2: If No Mahagathbandhan Formed Ahead of Polls
In case the two major regional parties - Samajwadi Party and BSP - fail to ink a pre-poll pact, the BJP is likely to repeat the 2014 mandate, the survey claims.
Without an united Opposition, the saffron party is predicted to win 72 out of the 80 seats, whereas, the Samajwadi Party would emerged second with victories in 4 constituencies. The BSP and the Congress are predicted to bag 2 each.

Uttar Pradesh is considered key to the formation of the government at the Centre. The state elects a total of 80 lawmakers. In 2014, the BJP ended up shocking the pollsters by winning 71 seats in the state.
