Narendra Modi Swearing-In: List of Top Guests Likely to Attend Oath-Taking Ceremony Tomorrow

After four decades, first-time an incumbent Prime Minister in India has been elected with a full majority. Modi has not only won, but has succeeded in consolidating his vote share. In accordance to the mandate, the government has planned a grand swearing-in ceremony, where heads of states of India's key neighbouring nations have been invited.

Foreign Dignitaries

Similar to the SAARC outreach in 2014, Modi has decided to lean towards the BIMSTEC group of nations in his oath-taking ceremony this year. Member nations of the group include Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Myanmar.

Among premiers who have confirmed to attend the swearing-in include, Bhutan PM Lotay Tshering, Thailand PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nepalese PM KP Sharma Oli and Myanmar Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi.

Apart from them, the Presidents of Mauritius and Kyrgyzstan are also expected to arrive in the national capital tomorrow to attend Modi's swearing-in ceremony.

Political Leaders

Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states, along with top office-bearers of the saffron party and their NDA allies, would be attending the oath taking event.

From the Opposition camp, Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy, Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal, Telangana's K Chandrasekhara Rao and Andhra Pradesh's Jaganmohan Reddy would be attending. An invitation has also been extended to former BJP ally and ex-Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu.

Tamil Superstars

Eyes from the down south would be drawn towards the national capital tomorrow as arguably two of the biggest superstars of Tamil  Nadu - actor-politicians Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan - would be attending the swearing-in ceremony.

While announcing his decision to attend the high-spectacle event, Rajinikanth said Modi is the most "charismatic leader" in the nation after Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi. He further added that the mandate accorded to BJP shows Modi is the most popular leader in the nation.
