Narendra Modi Swearing-In Ceremony: India Snubs Pakistan, Invites BIMSTEC Nations
India has not invited Pakistan for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony which is scheduled to take place on May 30. Instead, the invitation was sent to BIMSTEC nations which include Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.
New Delhi, May 27: India has not invited Pakistan for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony which is scheduled to take place on May 30. Instead, the invitation was sent to BIMSTEC nations which include Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan. The snub came a day after, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke to PM Modi to congratulate him on his party's electoral victory in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Khan also expressed his desire for both the countries to work together for the betterment of their people. However, PM Modi did not extend an invitation to his swearing-in ceremony. After the Lok Sabha election results, the Pakistan PM also took to Twitter to congratulate Modi for Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) thumping victory. In 2014, the then Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif was invited for the Modi’s oath-taking ceremony. Israel's Premier Benjamin Netanyahu has also been invited to the oath-taking ceremony. Meanwhile, PMO has sent an official invitation to Telangana Cheif Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh CM-designate Jagan Mohan Reddy for the ceremony. Along with this, the official invitation has been sent to actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan. The BJP registered a landslide victory in the general elections. The saffron party won 303 seats. The BJP-led led National Democratic Alliance bagged 353 seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress again failed to cross the three-figure mark. The grand old party got restricted to 52 seats.
