New Delhi, May 25: With the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance winning the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the seats in the Rajya Sabha are likely to rise. This will not only strengthen the PM Narendra Modi government, but also help the Central government to pass pending bills in Rajya Sabha.
The NDA-led government in its straight term with this majority in Lok Sabha, would now be able to increase its tally in Rajya Sabha which is 107 - out of total 245. The Upper House's majority means clearance of controversial and pending bills like Triple Talaq, the motor vehicles act or amendments to the citizenship act. All these are pending in Upper House as NDA couldn’t get the requisite numbers in the previous tenure. Narendra Modi to Take Oath as PM for Second Term On May 30: Reports
According to the tally, by November 2020 NDA would secure another 19 seats from as many as 14 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. This would give a clean majority to any ruling party in Rajya Sabha after 15 years. This means NDA will get nearly four years in the Rajya Sabha to further its legislative agenda even after 2020.
This Lok Sabha Elections, BJP-led NDA secured 352 seats, while Congress-led UPA managed to win just 91 seats.
